Lyrics?
There was some discussion about the lyrics of
Mythodea, but in 2 interviews we get some light on it...
Pulse interview (with Vangelis and Blake Neely)
"Eschewing both lyrics and the standard chorale solfege of ohhs and ahhs,
Vangelis constructed his own hieroglyph of phonemes, a la Lisa Gerrard and
Adiemus". "It wasn't easy for the singers".
"What they are singing and saying doesn't matter.... It's the expression and
some of these things"
"Like "Orazio" mean nothing, but when Kathleen Battle sings it, when Jessye
Norman sings it, you think 'I've got to go look up; what does is mean?' because
the way they express it means something"...
Elsewhere interview (with Blake Neely: 14-10-2001)
"They're not actual lyrics in the sense that they aren't a language"
"There's a lot of things that sound like actual words, but I can tell you that
you coudn't translate it...."
"Vangelis knows what it means because he actually came up with the sounds. It's
definitely not random."
"I'm sure it means something to him (Vangelis)"....
